CoE Report published: Spaces of Inclusion

The Council of Europe publication entitled “Spaces of Inclusion – An explorative study on needs of refugees and migrants in the domain of media communication and on responses by community media” has been prepared by experts of the COMMIT Community Media Institute in Austria. We are very happy to finally see the outcome of what has been an ambitious project and hope it will help further support intercultural work in community media.

IAMCR 2017 Conference in Cartagena, Colombia

Community Communication and Alternative Media Section Report

The 2017 IAMCR conference in Cartagena was particularly successful for the Community Communication and Alternative Media Section (COC). Researchers enjoyed a large, diverse and very lively program: Highlights included a panel on Indigenous media in Colombia and reaching out in Cartagena with the out of venue session at the Teatro de Bellas Artes with the panel ‘Knowledge and dialogue on streets and for resilient neighborhoods: Young communicators and the right to a healthy life’. CMFE and COMMIT organize thematic meeting in Vienna with Media & Internet Division of the Council of Europe

On Monday, 12th of december 2016, a thematic meeting took place with members of Community Media organizations, of journalist educators and Charlotte Altenhoener-Dion (Administrator/Secretary of the MSI-NET, Media & Internet Division, Council of Europe). At the RTR (Austrian Regulartory Authority) head of the media division Alfred Grinschgl welcomed all participants. Researchers at the London School of Economics had prepared the draft of a report on “Media coverage of the “refugee crisis”: A cross-European perspective”. Charlotte Altenhoener-Dion stated the interest of the Council of Europe to learn about the practices of Community Media oganizations in dealing with contents linked to refugees and migration. Participatory media practice and ensuring access to finding one’s own voice as well as the possibility to connect to others can be seen as inspiration for both public service and private commercial media.

European Media Pluralism Monitor rates the Czech Republic
